With the hype surrounding Tim Burton's new take on 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory', author Roald Dahl is being rediscovered by readers and Hollywood alike. Several of the late writer's text are being tossed around movieland for short-to-medium term adaptation.
First, John Cleese has co-written a script treatment for "The Twits', about unhappy performing animals and their vile owners. Mark Mylod (Ali G In Da House) is up to direct.
Wes Anderson (The Royal Tennenbaums) joined Henry Selick for a stop-motion adaptation of 'Fantastic Mr Fox', about a chicken thief troubling three villainous farmers.
Amblin's Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy are hard at work on 'The Big Friendly Giant' from a script by Ed Solomon (Men In Black).
And Finally, veteran director Robert Altman has been fishing around networks for a little while to propose adaptation of some of Dahl darker adult short stories. HBO first spotted the project, but passed recently. Word is that Brit broadcasters are intensely interested, and the project should see light of day in the following year.
