'Titanic' director James Cameron spoke to NPR last week, and confirmed the go-ahead for a feature film adaptation of 'Battle Angel Alita'.
Known in Japan as 'Gunm', the anime by Yukito Kishiro tells the story of a young female cyborg found in the ruined of a devastated city. Restored by a cyberdoctor, she sets out to fight a mysterious rising power, and find her lost memory.
The project had been linked to Cameron a long while ago, but nothing had ever been concretely announced. From the looks of it though, the production is finally getting into high gear.
"We're finishing up the shooting draft right now. We've been designing, it's a big science fiction film and a couple things that will be interesting about this project," says Cameron in the interview.
And being a Cameron film, the concept advocated by the man looks like another roof-raising budget.
"The main character, even though it's a live action film, the main character will be done with CG animation and the second thing that's interesting is we're going to be shooting it in 3D using the stereo imagining system that we've been developing for the documentaries."
