After gaining control of Fallujah, American troops believe they have located the base of Jordanian-born terrorist, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. The troops came across a large building with concrete columns with signs on the wall reading 'Al Qaida Organization' and 'There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger.'
Once inside, soldiers found copies of the Quran, computers, photographs and other documents which they are now sorting through.
'I cannot stand here and tell you that we found the command and control house or building where Zarqawi went ahead and orchestrated and dealt his (car bombs) ... and the other death and destruction that he has spread throughout the country of Iraq,' Lietenant General John Sattler told reporters at the Pentagon via a video teleconference from Fallujah. 'We will continue to look for that.'
Al-Zarqawi is one of the most notorious anti-American terrorists operating in Iraq and is believed to be responsible for the murder of numerous foreigners who were held hostage by insurgents. Some videotapes placed on the internet allegedly showed al-Zarqawi beheading hostages. There is presently a $25 million reward for his capture offered by American forces.
American officials are hopeful that if this building is al-Zarqawi's headquarters, they will be able to obtain valuable information that could lead to the capture of al-Zarqawi and other terrorists.
