'Steve's body of work is remarkable. I know that because earlier this evening, Steve turned to me and said, 'Isn't my body of work remarkable?' '
Funnyman Martin short's comments were just the tip of the iceberg as a plate-full of friends gave veteran comedian Steve Martin his due.
Martin was honoured as part of the American Cinematheque's 19th annual fundraiser. 'Steve Martin is a unique Hollywood star - a renaissance man - actor, comedian, screenwriter, playwright, novelist, producer, art collector. His eclectic award-winning career has brought him to the forefront of Hollywood as both a writer and actor in some of the most memorable comedies of the past 20 years. We are looking forward to a wonderful evening honoring this extraordinary artist' wrote the Cinematheque's Rick Nicita in a press release.
Each year, the organisation honors 'an extraordinary artist currently making a significant contribution to the art of the Moving Picture.'
Among the invited roasters were fellow SNL comedians Jon Lovitz, Martin Short and Eugene Levy. Martin's Parenthood director Ron Howard presented the award.
