Pierce Brosnan, the latest 007 star made the suggestion as of late that actor Colin Farrell would be fitting to step into his shoes as the next James Bond because “he’ll eat the head off them all.”
In an interview with Reuters on Sunday to discuss his upcoming film “Alexander”, Farrell, 28, feigned outrage at the idea of his becoming the sixth James Bond and joked that he was shocked by Brosnan’s suggestion. He went on to say that if he got the job he, ‘just might employ an Irish accent to confuse fans of the suave British agent.’
Farrell was quoted as saying, “The idea of me playing James Bond got into the press, but it is not true. I would not like to do it … they should find someone the audience has no history with.”
Farrell’s latest flick “Alexander” surrounding the life of Alexander the Great, is due to open in theatres nationwide in late November. It was a demanding role for the actor both physically and mentally. While on location in Thailand he broke both an ankle and a wrist filming battle scenes.
Finding a successor to assume the role of agent 007 when Brosnan exits has been a subject on the minds of many for months. The character of James Bond has sold close to $4 billion in ticket sales since the first film, “Dr. No” hit the big screen 42 years ago. The James Bond phenomenon shows no signs of weakening.
With the release of “Die Another Day” in 2002, Brosnan fulfilled his four-film contract and is ready to move onto other projects. The next Bond film is not slated to come out until the year 2006. Other names being tossed around for consideration are Jude Law and Hugh Jackman, but nothing is confirmed yet.
