The jury in the Scott Peterson murder trial have requested to view the 14 foot boat that prosecutors claim Peterson used to take his wife's body out into the San Francisco Bay. Jurors were set to begin their third day of deliberations on Monday after failing to reach a verdict last week.
The jury remains sequestered in a local hotel and has limited access to the outside world. Members of the jury cannot watch the news or read newspapers or surf the internet. The only things they were permitted to watch on television over the weekend were movies and sporting events.
Judge Alfred Deluchhi will only permit the jury to deliberate on weekdays so each weekend they do not reach a verdict, they remain sequestered in their hotel rooms, watched by a team of 21 bailiffs who ensure they do not break the rules imposed upon them.
Peterson is on trial for murder of his wife Laci and the fetus she was carrying. Laci Peterson disappeared on December 24, 2002 and was eight months pregnant at the time.
If convicted of first degree murder, Peterson could face the death penalty. The jury also has the option of convicting Peterson of non-premeditated murder which would carry a lesser sentence.
