Elton John has conquered music, movies and the stage... now he wants television. The fiery, outspoken superstar has announced to the Daily Variety today that he will be developing a sitcom about an aging rock star for ABC television.
'It's not about me, but about everybody we've encountered over the past 30 years,' the Tiny Dancer told the Hollywood trade paper. 'We've met every star and seen every misbehavior. And it's about the people around the star, who have to put up with them. It's an upmarket Spinal Tap.'
Sir Elton said the main character will not be based on himself but would be inspired by a mix of other fellow rock icons such as Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie.
Daily Variety reported that John's longtime business manager Bob Halley dreamed up the concept about three years ago. He got Rocket Man interested in the idea, and then pulled 'Sex and the City' creator Cindy Chupack, songwriter Bruce Roberts and producer Michael Edelstein on board to help out.
The ABC sitcom will feature music spanning from the 70s to present day. John has already written a song for the project 'Him and Us,' which also will appear on his soon-to-be-released album 'Peachtree Road.'
