NBC announced today that it will not run the animated show, 'Father of the Pride' during the all-important November sweeps period. The sweeps period is used by networks and advertisers to set advertising rates for the coming year. The series will be shown again in December with the remaining six episodes to be run at that time.
'Father of the Pride' started out with impressive ratings when it premiered in August but lately, its audience has been cut almost in half from the 12.4 million who tuned in for the show's debut. Each episode of the animated feature costs approximately $2 million to make.
NBC had no comment on the long-term future of the series which has been beset by slipping ratings and the bad PR generated by the injuries sustained by Roy Horn when he was mauled by one of the duo's tigers and nearly killed last year. Horn is recovering and undergoing physical therapy but Siegfried and Roy's Las Vegas act has been canceled and their future as performers is in doubt.
