Jami Miscik, the CIA Deputy Diretor for Intelligence, announced her resignation today, making her the sixth senior CIA official to resign since Peter Goss became director in September. She announced her resignation to her staff via e-mail and called it a 'natural evolution.' Ms. Mascik is scheduled to leave her post on February 4th.
According to published reports, the decision to step down was not Ms. Mascik and she had been asked to leave. She has been working for the CIA for the past 21 years.
Ms. Mascik was responsible for analyzing daily reports of intelligence information and reporting to the president, usually in a highly classified document.
The agency has come under fire since faulty intelligence about weapons of mass destruction was used by the Bush Administration to get the U.S. to invade Iraq. Insiders say Goss was highly critical of Miscik and that he insisted she leave the agency.
No announcement has been made as to who may take over the position after Ms. Mascik leaves in February.
