John Mayer returned to his high school alma mater on Thursday to be inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. When he appeared to receive the honor, however, the pop star was asked to leave and was escorted to his car by school officials.
According to the headmaster of Warde High School, Mayer was sent to the principal's office and asked to leave because of security concerns. We were 'concerned for his welfare and for the welfare of the students,' said headmaster James Coyne. 'We accompanied him to his car.'
The 27 year-old Mayer simply described the incident as 'hurtful.'
Mayer initially indicated he could not attend the ceremony so there was not adequate security for him. He changed his mind shortly before Thursday's ceremony and was reportedly set to donate a guitar to the school. 'We were not ready for John Mayer,' said Jim Conley, the chairman of the school's Hall of Fame committee.
So while the 27 year-old Mayer can be recognized by his old high school, they'll still send him to the principal's office if he causes a commotion.
