The Cincinnati Reds continued revising their pitching staff today by signing left handed starter Eric Milton to a three-year, $25.5 million deal. The 29 year-old Milton led the Philadelphia Phillies with 14 wins last season. He totaled 34 starts and 171 strikeouts with a 4.75 ERA.
Milton's contract was comperable to the deal Matt Clement signed with the Red Sox earlier this off-season. The newest member of the Reds rotation received a $4 million signing bonus and will have a $4 million salary this season before increasing to $8.5 million in 2006 and $9 million in 2007.
Milton began his major league career with the Minnesota Twins and played in the All-Star game in 2001. He pitched a no-hitter for the Twins on September 11, 1999 against the Anaheim Angels. He also pitched well for Minnesota in the post-season, going 1-0 with a 1.65 ERA in 2002 and 2003.
Milton joins last year's ace Paul Wilson and right hander Ramon Ortiz in the Cincinnati rotation.
