An Islamist website broadcast a videotape of last week's attack on the mess hall in Mosul that killed 22 people and injured dozens more. The three terrorists shown on the video are believed to be members of the Ansar al-Sunnah Army which is the group that claimed responsibility for the attack.
The first part of the video shows three terrorists in black hoods talking about the planned attack. The date at the bottom of the screen indicates December 20th: one day before the deadly suicide bombing took place. The three terrorists talk about their plans. One of the three has an explosives belt tied to his body and is identified as Abu Omar al-Mosuli.
'One of the lions from our martyrdom-seeking brothers will infiltrate the defenses of the enemy at the Marez base in Mosul,' a gunman says. 'He will slip through a hole in the camp's wire, exploiting the changing of the guard.
'This lion will then proceed to his target, and he will take advantage of lunchtime, when the dining hall is crowded with the crusaders and their [Iraqi] allies,' the gunman says. 'The operation will then be carried out.'
'Let [President] Bush, [British Prime Minister Tony] Blair and [Iraqi Interim Prime Minister Iyad] Allawi know that we are coming and that we will chase them all away, God willing.'
The videotape continues with an actual recording of the deadly blast itself. It was apparently taken in a car that was fleeing the scene and shows a large fireball coming from the mess hall and later the mess hall with a sizeable hole in its roof.
No further information was given about the alleged bomber, Abu Omar al-Mosuli. State Department officials are examining the videotape to determine its authenticity.
