It's been a stellar week for Michael Vick. The Atlanta Falcons quarterback led his team to a victory on Saturday that clinched a bye week for his team in the first round of the playoffs. Yesterday, Vick was named to the NFC Pro Bowl which means he gets a free trip to Honolulu a week after the Super Bowl and that his peers recognize him as one of the game's best. Today, Vick signed a 10 year contract extension with the Falcons worth more than $100 million and includes over $37 million in bonuses.
Vic was thrilled with the terms of the new deal. 'You know, making a commitment says a lot, not just to me, but to our team. It means a lot to me,' Vick told the Associated Press.
Falcons owner Arhtur Blank released a statement reiterating his team's committment to winning. 'We've said on numerous occasions that this franchise is committed to bringing a world championship to the city of Atlanta, the state of Georgia, as well as to building a sustainable winning organization consistently in the hunt. Today's contract extension for Michael, in our opinion, moves us closer to achieving those goals.'
Vick is considered one of the up and coming young quarterbacks in the game. He is just getting familiar with the west coast offense and once he learns to read his progressions better and gains experience, most scouts say he has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks of all-time.
With two games left to go, Vick is 80 yards shy of the all-time single season rushing record by a quarterback set by the Bears Bobby Douglass back in 1972. Vick is battling a shoulder injury and may be rested for at least part of the final two games so he can be ready for the playoffs.
