Veteran writer and producer Paul Mason intends to re-introduce Frank Capra's "Meet John Doe" under his Barstu Productions banner.
The original 1941 comedy, starring Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck and Walter Brennan, followed the rise and fall of a drifter hired to impersonate a fictitious political activist who promised he would commit suicide as a protest. Director Capra had tested audiences with five different endings, including one where the hero does commit suicide.
As for Mason, he seems to be getting geared for the remake game. He received Executive Producer credit for the upcoming "Amytiville Horror" revamp, and his 70s series "Get Christie Love" has also long been rumoured for an eventual remake.
