At this point, I'd like to offer my "Don't Kill The Messenger" disclaimer: this is just a rumour. Repeat: This is just a rumour.
Entertainment news site IESB.Net offered an earthshaking piece of gossip, a few months ago, about George Lucas promising his fans he would keep the Star Wars franchise alive in a medium other than the big screen. Things heated up when rumours popped up about Kevin Smith being involved in a proposed Star Wars television series. Smith himself never denied any such reports, just loosely avoided the question.
The site now offers word from an anonymous tipster that such a thing isn't just an idea anymore. According to the informant, things are pretty much secured in that regard.
As quoted from the site:
"Kevin Smith and Mark Hamill are doing the pilot for a new weekly Star Wars series. It'll feature Hamill as Skywalker in a 'pop up now and then' role, but mostly, it's new characters, set in the same world as the films.Lots of talk about it here, but don't expect anything until Episode III is out. Its a go project, but I don't think there's much on it yet."
