Horror fans who were disappointed by Renny Harlin's take on the "Exorcist" prequel will be delighted: production house Morgan Greek decided to give the other version, by writer/director Paul Schrader, a second chance.
The scrapped version was originally announced to be released alongside Harlin's version on DVD, but it seems the producers felt a need to chance it as a stand alone.
"Paul is currently in post-production on the movie, as we're anticipating a limited theatrical release here in the United States sometime in 2005," said a Morgan Creek rep.
Schrader's film was dismissed for its lack of genuine scares, after being reviewed by Warner Bros. Talking to Daily Variety a while back, the director mentioned that he was only following the studio's own guidelines.
"They made it clear -- no spinning heads and no pea soup," he said. "So that's what I delivered, but then they changed their mind."
No date was offered for either the theatrical of DVD release, but it seems an announcement will come very soon.
