The murder trial of actor Robert Blake is scheduled to begin today in Los Angeles despite a bizzare break-in at his lawyer's office that resulted in the theft of one of his computers. The computer contained a lot of information pertinant to the case.
Blake, who is best known for his role as TV's 'Baretta', is on trial for the murder of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. Backley was shot to death in 2001 and the 71 year-old Blake was arrested almost a year later. He is presently free on $1.5 million bail but is confined to his residence.
Last Wednesday, a mysterious break-in took place at the offices of Blake's attorney, M. Gerald Schwartzbach. A comuter which contained what Schwartzbach described as 'the heart and soul of the defense case' was stolen from his office. Although the computer has not been recovered, Schwartzbach said he would proceed with opening statements today.
