Danny Glover Arrested During Protest

“Lethal Weapon” star Danny Glover was arrested on Wednesday on the steps of Sudan's embassy in Washington. The arrest came during a protest against the conditions in the country's Darfur region.

'We want an end to the hostility,' Glover said while calling for a peacekeeping force to stop the violence in western Sudan. Glover was led away in handcuffs by the U.S. Secret Service. He has been charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful assembly. The Sudanense Embassy closed on Monday after weeks of protests. The demonstrators want international intervention to stop the genocide that is occurring in Darfur, where Arab militias are driving African villagers off their land. The crisis has left 50,000 dead and 1.2 million homeless thus far.

'We must continue to demand justice and we must continue to demand peace for the people of Dafur,' Glover said. This is not his first political action. He has also spoken publicly against the war in Iraq.
