'The Munsters' becomes the latest classic television show to make it to the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter has stated that the Wayans brothers have inked a deal with Universal to adapt the show about a family of comic monsters into a movie. coming to the big screen courtesy of the Wayans brothers.
Keenen Ivory, Marlon and Shawn Wayans are set to write the screenplay as well as produce along with Rick Alvarez. No word yet on who will direct or star in the picture.
'The Munsters' aired on CBS from 1964-66. The Wayans version will reimagine the family in a modern setting. This deal is the first time the Wayans have gone derivative. The previous movies have been based on original ideas. The brothers began thinking about doing the remake while filming “White Chicks,” their latest movie. Coincidentally, Universal had been contemplating making a Munsters movie and so it was a case of perfect timing.
