Pete Rose Owes Close to One-Million Dollars in back Taxes.

Pete Rose has had many problems over the past few years and they keep on coming. He now owes close to $1 Million Dollars in back federal taxes. The IRS filed a federal tax lien in Broward County last Tuesday stating that Rose owes $973,698.28 for back taxes dating from 1977-2002.

The IRS has placed a lien against a home that Pete Rose owns in California. The former Cincinnati Reds star and manager does not fear returning to prison over his latest tax problem. His representatives stated that he is making monthly payments.

Rose served a five month sentence in 1990 and 1991 for the filing of false tax returns and he did not declare income he received from his now notorious gambling habit, as well we autographs and selling of memorabilia.

Rose agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball in 1989 following an investigation that he bet on games. After over 14 years of denial, he admitted in his recent book, 'My Prison Without Bars,' that he did indeed bet on games involving the Reds while managing his team in the late 1980s.

Rose has often been quoted as saying that he truly hopes to be reinstated by Commissioner Bud Selig and he has high hopes of becoming eligible for the Hall of Fame ballot and one day work in the major leagues again.

The commissioners are aware about the tax debt and they have stated that it should have no bearing on Rose's application for reinstatement, which was filled in 1997 but, is still pending.

Throughout his impressive 24-year baseball career that included playing with the Reds, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos, Rose had a record 4,256 hits before retiring in 1986.

Always a big fan favorite Rose was nicknamed 'Charlie Hustle' because of his unique style of playing the game. Rose made the All-Star team 17 times, was the National League's rookie of the year in 1963, MVP in 1973 and MVP of the 1975 World Series. Rose led the league in hitting and played on three World Series champions.
