Survivor - Season One: The Greatest and Most Outrageous Moments (2000) VIDEO
by Jeff Probst
For devotees of the show who yearn to go back to the island, this two-and-a-half-hour video souvenir replays the most memorable moments of season 1, including all the tribal councils that sealed the castaways' fates. What makes this video collectible are the never-before-broadcast audition tapes (Susan's is a jaw-dropping hoot), as well as each castaway's parting words after being voted off the island (Stacey is particularly bitter). There is gratuitous rodent skinning, uncensored profanity (from Susan and B.B.), and nudity (unfortunately, all Richard). Thankfully, we are spared Sonja's ukulele playing. |

Survivor II: The Field Guide by
Mark
Burnett
"Survivor II: The Australian Outback" is over and done with, so why read "The Official Companion Book to the CBS Television Show"? Because if you were a devotee of the show you will find it interesting. The first section, "Survivor: Borneo," provides Mark Burnett's comments on the end game of the first "Survivor," looking at the last days, final tribal council, wrap party, and the show's premier as a prelude to casting the second series. The chapters providing "A Short History of the Land Down Under" and "The Playing Field" are concise but interesting looks at the playing field for the game with color photography similar to what we got during the series. |

Sensational
TV: Trash or Journalism? by Nancy Day |
Day offers readers a sobering investigation into talk shows, tabloid news programs, and reality-based adventure shows and comes up with a well-meaning but superficial primer in the Issues in Focus series. The author demonstrates the emotional wallop talk shows pack by recounting the horrifying and freakish stories that these programs frequently highlight in order to guarantee high ratings and therefore garner advertising revenues. | |

| Fans of the CBS show "Survivor" and of raunchy comedy will love "Erotic Survivor." This is a movie that has a lot of laughs for anyone who likes a good dirty joke. There are some delightfully nasty scenes in the movie, but this spoof is geared more toward a comic slant than an X-rated one. This movie is VERY low budget, but that doesn't take much away from it. Where else will you see contestants bringing sex toys, whiskey, and cigarettes for their luxury items? This movie is packed full of laughs, and still remains almost as fun to watch as the real show. | ||

| 25 b/w illustrations! "A man
writes the same number, and nothing else, on 20 sheets of paper. Why?"
"A man went around the world in a ship. Yet he was always in sight of
land. How come?" These are examples of lateral thinking puzzles. You're
given a statement about a situation you have to use as a starting point to
arrive at a particular explanation or solution.

| Review: The first one I have to say was very easy, but they're not all like that. This is a great book! It's really great for road trips. I would recommend this book along with other titles by Paul Sloane for anyone who likes lateral thinking puzzles and some that don't.

![]() Big Brother Game |
Any four to six fans of the TV
game show Big Brother can now enjoy the gossip and the confrontation long
after the show is over. On an 18-inch-square game board, move cardboard pieces
around from "room" to "room" and try not to get banished
from the house. Unlike the TV show, players won't win $500,000, but then they
won't get stuck on the board for three months, either. Ballot cards, a ballot
box, and two dice are included.

![]() Survivor Game |
You won't have to eat live
insects, sleep among Malaysian field rats, live on an isolated island for 39
days, or even endear yourself to Sue to enjoy the Survivor Board Game from
Mattel. Based on the wildly popular first season of the Survivor TV series,
this multiplayer (four to eight adults) game adopts the basic premise of the
show as players rely on quick wits, as well as pure luck and the collective
vote of the Tribal Council, to become the game's sole survivor. With a plastic
replica of the island of Pulau Tiga as its centerpiece and cardholder, the
game is played on an illustrated game board and comes complete with 168 game
cards in three different categories of questions and riddles, as well as some
Pictionary-type cards. The game also includes a special die, 10 playing pieces
and stands, nine erasable voting cards, an erasable pen, immunity idol, and an
instruction sheet

| Was it Ron Weasley with the Wingardium Leviosa spell in Filch's office? Or was it Draco Malfoy with the Alohomora spell in the Transfiguration class? If it seems that the Mystery at Hogwarts Game bears more than a passing resemblance to Clue, the classic detective game, you're not imagining things or under the spell of Goyle's Forgetfulness potion. With colorful and stylish game equipment, Mattel has melded the world of J.K. Rowling and Master Potter with the realm of the Brothers Parker and Professor Plum. Players move about the representation of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to determine which three cards are contained in Fluffy's folder. Additional features include a roaming ghost, which can send players back to Start, and certain Hogwarts emblems on the dice that allow a peek at opponents' cards. | ||
