Linda Ronstadt Ejected From Vegas Casino For Political Views

Linda Ronstadt's political stance caused her to be ejected from the Aladdin casino in Las Vegas. Ronstadt who had been hired for Saturday night, told the audience that the song “Desperado” was dedicated to filmmaker Michael Moore and his movie “Fahrenheit 911.” The dedication was met with an angry response by some; one quarter of the 4,500 people in the audience left before the performance was over. The singer was immediately asked to leave.

Before her concert, Ronstadt had apparently told the Las Vegas Review Journal that she hoped the casino performance would be her last, joking that if she was “annoying enough to them” that they wouldn’t hire her back. After the concert, the singer was asked to leave the hotel immediately.

Unfazed by the incident, Ronstadt made similar comments at her concert the following evening, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Again her comments were met with a mixture of cheers and boos. 'I don't try to instruct people how to vote or think,' she told the Union-Tribune in a recent interview. 'But Michael Moore has raised some really important points (about President Bush and the war in Iraq) that a lot of people haven't given thought to . . . So if I can just lend my voice to his efforts . . . ' Ronstadt is a 10-time Grammy winner who has had a 38-year career.

This incident follows on the heels of Whoopi Goldberg’s ejection from the Slim-Fast advertising campaign after derogatory comments about President Bush during a Kerry fundraiser.
