Ruben, Ruben, Ruben, what were you thinking? Those nice folks at your hometown clothing company, 205Flava, helped give you a distinctive look. It brought you immediate press recognition-symbolizing your loyalty to Birmingham, Alabama.
We called 205Flava to get the other side of the story-since it really wasn't clear on AP's nationwide article. It seems that Ruben Studdard fired 205Flava and didn't bother to tell them about it. They found out this morning in the news just like everyone else.
Before today, Ruben Studdard stood for a lot of things. Gentleness. Soothing songs. His religious beliefs. And always, with Ruben, there was his hometown loyalty.
But that hometown loyalty is gone. I am not sure what makes me sadder-the awful way you handled this, Ruben, or the fact that the many extra people who found jobs at 205Flava may be out on the streets. As well as the people who supplied materials to 205Flava. This isn't a get rich scheme-it's some people trying to make a living doing what they love. Extra money, to these guys, meant extra jobs. 205Flava gives back to the community.
Ruben did a good deed by patronizing a local entrepreneur (they sent him new jerseys every week). Now he is taking away all that goodness in one fell swoop. We are wondering if you are all as nice as you seemed, Ruben Studdard.
