Rob falls - and fails!

At the beginning of this last Survivor episode we were again treated to Butch dancing (I don't expect to see Butch's rendition of the "Egyptian" on American Bandstand or Soul Train any time soon). I'm sure Butch has successfully traumatized his wife with his dancing and since he's a school principal he'll be fodder for generations of school children yet to come. I forgive Butch his bad dancing as I'm sure if I made it to the Survivor Final Four I'd be happy too (and I'm a mean dancer myself...)

Alas the Final Four camaraderie had to end. The first immunity challenge of the final episode was a blindfolded trip through a maze where each contestant had to find four necklaces by using Braille-like raised symbols that gave them clues as to the location of each necklace. In the end Jenna won immunity by just barely beating Matthew. While the men weren't happy that no one in their alliance won the immunity challenge at least Matthew and Butch had the chance to grope Jenna (inadvertently) during the blindfolded contest. (Jenna chastised Butch with a tongue-in-cheek "Butch! You're a married man!" when the Butch-ster accidentally grasped Jenna's chest during the contest.)

Jenna's victory in this immunity challenge (perhaps caused by the karma of her now destroyed Zeta jacket?) threw a wrench in the works! Butch, Matt, and Rob had anticipated voting Jenna out during tribal council. Her immunity challenge success made that plan impossible. Everyone understood the situation and Butch campaigned for Jenna to vote out Rob while Rob and Matthew encouraged her to get rid of Butch. In the end Jenna decided that the school principal had to go and the Butch-ster was shown the door. As one would anticipate Butch was magnanimous and good-natured in defeat.

Some pointless episode meandering followed as the contestants each weighed themselves to determine how much they'd lost and then went on a seaplane ride. As a final gesture they each constructed some Amazon-type tribal headgear to prepare for the final immunity challenge.

The final immunity challenge was a balance beam contest where each contestant had to stay on a balance beam with their headdress hoisted above them. Matt was first to fall and was eventually followed by Rob. Jenna's second immunity challenge victory in a row guaranteed her a spot in the final two and put her in the driver's seat. She chose to vote out Rob...and the fast talking Rob's Survivor dreams were put to a final end! Tell us it ain't so!

After the usual fanfare and buildup the 7 person jury voted 6-1 for Jenna to win (A surprise to me I must say) and she became the sole Survivor!

A couple of final thoughts:

- I thought Rob played the game the best. Jeff Probst even labeled Rob the "best Survivor player not to win". Alas, Rob's failure in not winning this Survivor series means he cannot be labeled a better player than the original Machia-belly...Richard Hatch (all hail his name). Rob also probably sabotaged a successful political career due to the fact his impropriety and devious nature was displayed publicly on TV on a weekly basis.

- As well as being disappointed in Rob's loss I was also disappointed with Jenna's victory. I don't think she played the game better than Rob or Matthew. Rather, her survival depended two very lucky immunity challenge victories and the fact she managed to offend fewer people than Matt (not a very difficult thing to do!) However, I suppose twists and turns like this are just part of the game!
