“Our most shocking execution yet,” said the announcer during commercial break. That could mean only one thing to viewers of Celebrity Mole Yucatan– it was bound to be actor Stephen Baldwin’s last night. And although he tied with another player during the quiz, having taken more time to complete the quiz he became the third player eliminated from the series.
This weeks episode of the popular ABC series was all about building the jackpot. Having begun the night with a record low of sixteen thousand dollars in the pot, they would work together to build it to a total of 93k before the execution round.
Host Ahmad Rashad began the gaming with a Mexican chicken wrangling competition on the beach. 48 sombreros covered a fenced-in area on the beach with 24 chickens running loose among them. Working in teams of two, the competitors had five minutes to catch as many of the numbered chickens as they could by finding their corresponding number pinned to the inside of a sombrero. Find the number and catch the chicken became the method. Although all three teams did well, comedian Mark Curry took plenty of time goofing around in the process and also failed to follow all the rules making him look the most suspicious of all the players. Model Angie Everhart and Baldwin teamed up to win the most money banking a total of $31,000. At the end of the game, Rashad gave them the opportunity to select one chicken wrangler to go head to head with a rooster for an additional 10k in the pot. The group selected Cosby vet Keshia Knight-Pulliam, who although she was concerned the rooster might be mean, managed to easily catch it for the bonus. In past episodes, Keshia has looked suspiciously mole-like by her quiet demeanor. But with all the money she added to the pot this week, it would be impossible to believe that she had sabotage as her goal.
The one alliance in the group, that of Baldwin and actress Tracey Gold began to break down as Gold questioned Baldwin’s confidence. To the “confessional camera” she said she wished he was more sure of a suspect for the mole. She continued to question his behavior as they partnered up for the next game at the Ruins of Tulum, a 3 a.m. maze run that pitted the players against two Mexican wrestlers named Jaymar the Brute and Carlos the Jackal. Each team consisted of a runner and a navigator. The navigator guided the runner through the maze with the aid of an overhead camera. The goal of the runner was to make it from the entrance of the maze to the end with one of the wrestlers championship belts without being tagged by one of the two wrestlers. As an added assistance, a mariachi band was placed inside the maze and would play when a wrestler was in sight. How much help they actually were is questionable as the runners didn’t seam to be listening to the band as much as their shouting navigator partners.
The first two teams were tagged out and only the team of Keshia and Curry were able to succeed, adding 20k to the pot. Each of the runners was then told that the belts contained a possible exemption and if they were willing to take five thousand out of the pot, they could look for the exemption. Tracey bought the chance and won her first exemption of the game. Having selected the belt with the green fingerprint, Mark Curry was given a special secret game of his own for dinner the following evening. If he could eat everybody’s leftovers, he would add 10k to the pot and earn an exemption for himself. Although it was a lot of food, it is not within the realm of possibility that this big man could eat all of it in the allotted fifteen minutes. His failure to do so continues to make this writer suspect that he is indeed the mole.
Perhaps the least suspicious and the cleverest of all the players is the quietest of all, basketball player Dennis Rodman. We weren't let in on who Baldwin tied with in the execution round, but my guess is that it was Angie Everhart, who I also suspect will be next weeks victim.
So, “the most shocking execution” was not so shocking as Rashad escorted the eliminated Baldwin to the taxi of shame. Saying he didn’t know if he could do this again, he was not as convincing as last weeks victim Corbin Bersen. And while the odds seem to be stacked against him, I would not be in the least bit surprised to see Stephen Baldwin on Celebrity Mole 3 – perhaps this time as the mole.
