Joe Millionaire is back. Called “The Next Joe Millionaire”, JM2 saddles up and rides onto our television sets October 20. This year’s “Joe” is David Smith, a 24-year-old cowboy from Texas who makes $11,000 a year. Since he couldn’t possibly fool anyone in the US into believing that he is a millionaire, 14 women from around the world (from places where the show did not air) will vie for his heart in Venice.
What can we expect this year? We all know how Fox likes to work a good twist (remember Paradise Hotel?), so checking out the website won’t give you much information. There’s a cute catchy song that reminds me of a Marlboro cigarette commercial, but not much else. In fact, most of the links say, “Coming Soon.” I’ve seen David Smith on a few entertainment shows, but mostly just getting into or out of a limo or riding a horse. I did read a list of the women participating in the show, but nothing about them, so I can only guess that Fox is trying to build excitement by not giving too much away.
Will the Europeans fall for our cowboy? How different will they be from the American women last year? I'd love to see a woman just state up front, 'I'm not interested in all that love crap - let's just get on with the negotiations!' I know this is wishful thinking, but it sure would make for must-see TV.
So, I don’t know what this season will bring, but I’m sure we will watch.
