Elites - Jon and Kelly, way to go---you ran a very close race, and I have to say, I thought you two were so funny!
Jon – At least somebody gets us.
Elites – Right to the nitty gritty—what was the time differential between you guys and Chip & Reichen?
Jon – They got the cab right out of the airport in Arizona and the next cab didn’t come along for seven minutes. That was the longest seven minutes of our lives and that was pretty much all they needed.
Elites – So in the end…
Kelly – It was ten minutes, it was so close, I mean, you have no idea.
Elites – Kelly, refresh my memory, how many (if any) roadblocks did you do?
Kelly – Shoot, I don’t even know.
Jon – Two.
Kelly – Two? That’s it? Okay, wait a second here. I tried to do many a roadblock, but I have this ambitious boyfriend who loves to face death and I had to let him do what he wanted to do. This is supposed to be the time of his life, too.
Elites – That’s right, he liked the cars. Jon, I forget, did you drive at Le Mans?
Jon – No, actually, I let Kelly do that. See, I’m not all about myself.
Elites – Were there certain teams were you closest to?
Jon – Well, obviously, the teams that made it further to the end. Reichen and Chip, David and Jeff. We also love the clowns. I’d say those four are the ones we probably connected to the most.
Kelly – I would too, definitely.
Elites – Are there any moments that weren’t included in the broadcast show, that you wish had made it in?
Kelly – Hmmm. You know what? Yes! Jon you probably forgot this already. The very first episode, we arrived at the airport and everything, and everybody had to get those three different flights. Once everybody got through the gate, they just kind of mulled around, talking, whatever. Jon, snuck me and our camera crew into the first class Qantas lounge—our camera guys were Australian. And we’re sipping on champagne and having hors d’ouevres. It was fantastic, they didn’t show that, and it’s so typically ‘Jon,’ I wish they had shown it.
Elites – Were you surprised at who made up the final 3 teams?
Jon – Before the race even started, there was sequestering in the hotel for a week before we actually left. That was the first time we saw the final 12 teams. I actually had it picked--Reichen and Chip, David and Jeff, and ourselves were going to make it to the final three.
Elites – Was that instinct based on physicality and maleness, or you just got that feeling off their personalities?
Jon – You could just sense it. Obviously, a male team that’s physically fit is always a threat, as you’ve seen this past season, how physically demanding all the tasks have been.
Kelly – It was SO physical, it almost killed me. Even the first detour was hell to pay. Mountains, trudging through the snow, it was probably the hardest thing we had to do the whole race.
Elites – Kelly, how are things between you and Moley, uh, I mean Millie?
Kelly – We gave our formal apologies yesterday. We waited to do it in person. And they accepted it, they were great, they accepted it and took it for what it was. Everybody realized it’s how we are—we don’t mean what we say or mean to hurt feelings and that’s what we do, we crack on people. So, we’re all good.
Elites – Tell me a juicy pitstop story.
Jon and Kelly – Uh… Ummm…(thinking)
Jon – Oh, I got a good one. On the final pitstop, it was Reichen and Chip, David and Jeff, myself and Kelly—we had a huge orgy. (laughing)
Kelly – JON CORSO! (laughing)
Kelly – I thought of a good story. It was when we were in Austria and we all got there at the same time. It was Tian and Jaree, Chip and Reichen, David and Jeff, the Supremes and us. The next clue didn’t open until 8:00 a.m. so we had all night to kill. Chip and Reichen had done some internet research, found hotels, and they gave us the names of the hotels. We split into two groups to go find them, in the hopes that we would all make reservations for each other. So then we find the first hotel, we make all the reservations. Chip and Reichen and all those guys get there, but it turns out that the reservations they gave for some of them—the hotel, was under construction or whatever, so we had to figure out how we could all sleep or get the through the night, and psycho Tian went crazy, I mean, a freak. I thought we were gonna need security in there.
Jon – Yeah. Tian, there wasn’t a lot of life under those eyes, she was scary.
Elites – I must be dense—what was the problem?
Kelly – She refused to share her room with the other teams, when the guys, I mean, they gave us the name of the hotel, we wouldn’t have even known about the hotel.
Jon – The hotel had maps on the counter of the area, and she took all the maps and was hiding them and throwing them in the garbage so the other teams couldn’t have or look at the maps.
Kelly – We were just trying to make it through the night. And she refused, once help was given to her, she refused to reciprocate. So we ended up sharing rooms with Chip and Reichen and the other teams all shared, but they refused. And from then on, that was pretty much when folks kind of shunned them and wouldn’t share information with them.
Elites – Jon, was there any hesitance on your part to skinny dip on camera?
Kelly – (laughing) Hell, no.
Jon – Not really. It was one of those spur of the moment kind of things, and I was down to my last pair of clean underwear. I thought, I could get them wet, but then, what the hell, they’re not gonna show my small penis anyway. It was actually a blessing that they blurred it out, because it would have been much more embarrassing if they’d shown it.
Elites – What was scarier-- rappelling face down a building or skydiving?
Kelly – Rappelling, by far. With the concrete coming at you, it’s just totally different, you can’t even compare.
Jon – Doctors have done tests on people with fear of heights, once you’re over 45 ft., it doesn’t really matter if you’re at 10,000 ft. If you can see the ground, I think it’s scarier.
Elites – How difficult was it not reveal the end result of the Race?
Kelly – By the end we were used to it.
Jon – I liked it. Because I would play with it, like, “Oh, do you want to know? I’ll tell you. I haven’t told anybody else, but I’ll tell you.” But nobody really wanted to know because then they wouldn’t be able to get into the show like they did. We heard stories of our friends and family jumping up and screaming at the TV and running around the living room.
Kelly – It’s the only secret I’ve ever been able to keep in my whole entire life, and I was probably only able to keep it because I could share it with Jon. We talked about it so much, that I didn’t need to tell anybody else.
Elites – So, when’s the fancy schmancy wedding?
Jon – Well, it’s not going to be fancy schmancy anymore, let’s just make a quick note of that.
Kelly – Twenty-five grand pays for a pretty nice wedding.
Jon – So, we’re going to have it on our five-year anniversary this spring.
Elites – Aww…how nice! Congratulations again for a great race and to you, Kelly for being a tough chick!
